I stumbled upon this upcoming artist out of England a few weeks back.  Her name is Laura Kidd (a.k.a. “She Makes War”).  I’m intrigued, fascinated with her style and unique songs. . .  Her music, stylistically, is kind of neo-grunge / new-wave.  I’ve never been a big fan of the grunge movement but her take on it is subtle, melodic, understated.  Perhaps it’s the new-wave vibe gently weaved foundationally into her songs that even the “grungy” parts out.  In a way I want to say she’s a little bit “goth” but not quite.   Perhaps I like her music because it has a “fine art” quality to it.  I’ve always tended to listen to music that has this quality. . . Music is art, is it not?  In fact, I like to listen to “art music” a lot. . . meaning (in plainer terms) orchestral music or classical. . . given that the latter actually specifies a musical time period rather than a genre (but I’ll save that for a future blog).

Anyway, perhaps the biggest reason I like her music is because it seems real, heartfelt, not all dolled up with “ear candy”, “auto-tune”, etc. . . There is an ethereal quality to what she does yet there are textural edges too (just like a real human being).  She presents this in a theatrical like manner.  Her videos are witty and not overly embellished with CG (computer graphics) or overt sexual symbology.  Rather, they are focused on applications of creative cinematography.  Again, they are subtle, theatrically portrayed with good taste and simple yet clever set designs.  Most of the videos are shot with my currently favorite DSLR – Canon 5DmkII.  Yep, I really like this artist and Laura, if your listening, I’m wishing you all the best of success. . .  I wish there were more artists like you. . . There probably are but they are yet buried (at least to me) in the din of the extremely saturated world of musical acts. . .

So everyone, check this artist out.  Tell me what you think.  Below are links to four (4) of her videos.  Cheers. . .
